Elkin Soto Jaramillo (born 4 August 1980 in Manizales, Caldas Department) is a Colombian midfielder currently playing for 1. FSV Mainz 05.
He was one of the fundamental parts in Once Caldas Copa Libertadores 2004 historic final against Boca Juniors in which they won. He is also a starter of the Colombian national team where he plays left wing midfielder. He has been known for scoring many game-winning goals and is seen as a real leader on the field. He played the last five games of the qualifiers for the 2006 FIFA World Cup and scored against Peru,Ecuador and Uruguay. He has scored many goals in friendlies as well.
Currently a member of Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga, he went on free transfer in the 2006 summer window fromBarcelona SC in Ecuador's Campeonato Ecuatoriano de Fútbol. This is seen as a controversy because he says he was a free agent and Once Caldas, the team he was a part of, declares that he is still their player. Unfortunately for the Colombian national team this is an issue which had him banned from the national side until the issue got solved. He came back to the Colombian team on March to vs Ecuador.
