Lulic pindah di masa kecilnya ke Swiss karena Perang Bosnia dan memulai karir sepak bolanya di Chur 97. Dia kemudian pindah ke Bellinzona, di mana ia membantu klub mendapatkan promosi ke Liga Super Swiss di musim terakhirnya di klub yang berbasis di Ticino. Pada bulan Juli 2008, ia bergabung dengan Grasshopper Klub Zürich, bermain dua musim untuk Grasshopper sebelum dipindahkan ke Bernese klub BSC Young Boys. Setelah musim satunya sukses di Young Boys, di mana Lulic mencetak total sembilan gol dalam 40 pertandingan antara Liga Super, Piala Swiss, dan kompetisi UEFA, ia menerima tawaran dari klub Jerman Hertha Berlin dan Werder Bremen, serta Serie A Lazio.
